The Caribbean Premier League(CPL or CPL 20-20) is an annual 20-20 (CPL 2020) cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. Along with the Indian Premier League and the Big Bash League, it is one of the most entertaining T-20 cricket tournaments in the world. The tournament will be played behind closed doors to ensure proper safety amidst the covid19 pandemic. The 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL T 20) is set to begin on August 18 with the final scheduled for September 10.
Six teams will contest the tournament, comprising 33 matches, which will take place in two stadiums in Trinidad and Tobago.
In this article, we look at the teams who have performed the best in CPL T-20 so far and predict the ones that are most likely to win the tournament this year. One of the most important factors that dictate how well a team does is the structure of the team. If the team management can predict the players that are most suited to complement their existing team and buy them in the auction, it increases their chances of winning the CPL t-20.
“The draft was carried out remotely and the six teams have successfully filled out their rosters with both the Caribbean and overseas players with Rashid Khan, Marcus Stoinis, Ross Taylor, Tambe, and Carlos Brathwaite all being signed up,” the CPL said in a release.
The top 4 teams that are predicted to win the CPL 20-20 this year are:
Trinbago Knight Riders
With names such as Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and Suniel Narine, the Knight Riders are one of the most popular teams in the tournament. Another reason for its popularity is the fact that none other than Mr Shahrukh Khan, a Bollywood celebrity, has a stake in the franchise. Having already won the tournament thrice in 2015, 2017 and 2018, the knight riders are the favourites to bet on.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
The Guyana Amazon Warriors were one of the six teams created for the Caribbean Premier League’s inaugural season in 2013. Since then they have played exceptionally well and reached the finals for a record 5 times. One of the most consistent teams in the CPL, it has players like Ross Taylor, Imran Tahir, Shimron Hetmyer and more. One look at their track record and you would confidently bet on them to win most of their matches in the CPL T-20 league.
With players like Rashid Khan, Alex Hales, Shai Hope and more, it is no wonder that this spectacular team won the previous edition of CPL 20-20 league in 2019. Having won the tournament twice and finishing as the runners up once, this team sure knows how to dominate.
Having already won two previous editions of the CPL t-20 league, Jamaica Tallawahs are a force to be reckoned with. Their team includes players such as Andre Russel, Carlos Braithwaite, Sandeep Lamicchane and more. The team won the inaugural edition of the CPL league by defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors. They are one of the safest bets one could make of teams that could win the tournament.
Perfect team combinations do not always ensure winning a tournament. Despite having been the most consistent team in the tournament, Guyana Amazon Warriors have been unlucky to have never actually won it. One of the charms of the t-20 leagues around the world is its unpredictability. The nature of the format is such that the game can change within a few overs if not just a few deliveries. Below, we have a look at the remaining two teams of the tournament and predict their winning chances.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
They participated in the tournament for the first time in 2015. Saint Kitts and Nevis franchise effectively replace the Antigua Hawksbills franchise, although it is intended that the Hawksbills franchise will be revived at a later date, with the CPL consequently featuring seven teams rather than six. They have played for editions so far and have been the runners in 2017’s edition of the CPL t-20 tournament. With players such as Elvin Lewis and Sheldon Cottrells, some might predict the team might turn out to be a wildcard that eventually goes on to win the tournament.
St Lucia Zouks
With names such as Darren Sammy, Colin Ingram and Andre Fletcher, it would be wise to bet on St Lucia Zouks. They have been unlucky to always be placed at the bottom of the table in all the editions so far. However, considering the nature of the tournament, it would be a wise betting tip to look out for this team.
To bet properly and predict precisely which team is going to win most matches, it would be a good idea to constantly track how their players perform and what combinations are working for each team. Some teams pick up the pace later in the tournament while certain teams lose their rhythm by the end of the tournament.
“This year will be a different CPL, but the standard will be higher than ever. We have seen the appetite for live sport since it has returned after a prolonged absence, and the interest in CPL will be higher than ever with it being the first franchise T20 tournament to return,” said CPL CEO Damien O’Donhoe.
The fans have been dying for some much-needed sports action and the Caribbean Premier League is here to fulfil that demand.
