TNPL & Young Talent
TNPL has often been credited for giving an opportunity to local players to shine in future. It not only offers a sub-national platform to players but also assists them to get the attention from national team selector. The league has also proved to be a good influence on Tamil Nadu Cricket. Also, with Chennai Super Kings playing IPL this season, the buzz around cricket is quite alive in the state. For venues, the league is considering SNR College, Coimbatore as one of the venues for the matches. The final decision is still pending. The last two seasons were played in Chepauk, IC Ground and NPR College Ground. So, Coimbatore will be an excellent addition. In fact, there is a franchise with Coimbatore as their base and, i.e. Lyca Kovai Kings.
Besides being a platform for budding players to showcase their skill and talent, TNPL also serves as an opportunity for players to improve their game. After the first two editions of TNPL which were a grand success, the third edition, TNPL 2018, is expected to be an even bigger success with more and more fans connecting with the tournament and helping the league grow. The league has helped players from every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu showcase their cricketing skills. Following the format of IPL, TNPL also has eight teams that battle against each other to clinch the coveted TNPL trophy.
Teams in TNPL 2018
Eight Team will fight hard for this year title.
- Albert Tuti Patriots

- Lyca Kovai Kings
- Madurai Super Giant

Any team is not allowed to have more than one player who has represented India internationally. This strict retention policy has been drafted to make sure that each of the eight teams has a fair chance at the tournament while giving the local players maximum opportunity to make it to this stage. Additionally, no team can retain more than one player who has represented in senior domestic tournaments from the squad for 2017 season.
The third edition of TNPL is expected to be an exciting affair with the new retention policy. For instance, Tuti Patriots will be forced to release two of its three international players. It will be interesting to see who does the Patriots choose to retain. Will it be Dinesh Karthik, Abhinav Mukund or Washington Sundar? The remaining two will be available for other teams to bid. Lyca Kovai Kings, on the other hand, will have to let either M. Vijay or Vijay Shankar go. Teams can choose not to retain any player and rebuild the team from scratch.
